In John 14:6, it is written, " 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am athe way, bthe truth, and cthe life: dno man cometh unto the Father, ebut by me. " Jesus did not say that we are free to choose a path to heaven — He is the only Way to get there. This world is full of sinners claiming freedoms that God never granted to anyone.
There are those who claim that a championship in athletics is the goal in life. Where is the satisfaction when your team fails to win one? The Bible does not specify that Jesus ever participated in athletics. The prophet Isaiah wrote of Him in Isaiah 53:2, " 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath 1no form nor 2comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no 3beauty that we should desire him. "
The claim of freedom of religion ( or the justifying of false religion ) wrongly implies that we have a choice with regard to how to worship God. In John 4:21-24, it is written, " 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, awhen ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship aye know not what: we know what we worship: for bsalvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall aworship the Father in bspirit cand in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 aGod is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. " Verse twenty-four has a cross-reference to 2 Corinthians 3:17, which reads as follows, namely: " 17 Now athe Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is bliberty. " The word "bliberty, " here, has a cross-reference to Galatians 5:1, 13, which read as follows, namely: " 5 Standa fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the byoke of bondange.… 13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only ause not liberty for an boccasion to the flesh, but cby love serve one another. "
In John 8:31-38, it is written, " 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye acontinue1 in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 and ye shall know the atruth, and bthe truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, aWe be Abraham's 1seed, and were never 2in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, aWhosoever committeth sin is the 1servant of sin. 35 And athe servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth 1ever. 36 aIf the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 37 I know that ye are Abraham's 1seed; but aye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38 aI speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. " How does the Son make us free? In Revelation 1:4-6, it is written, " 4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him awhich is, and bwhich was, and which is to come; cand from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; 5 and from Jesus Christ, awho is the faithful bwitness, and the cfirst 1begotten of the dead, and dthe 2prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him ethat loved us, fand washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 and hath amade us kings and priests unto God and his Father; bto him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. A-men´. " Thus, the Son washes us ( or makes us free ) from our past sins ( see Romans 3:21-31 ( especially verse 25, for example ), for example ) in his own blood. In order for this to happen, one must be Scripturally baptized, for in Romans 6:3, 4, it is written, " 3 1Know ye not, that aso many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ bwere baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are aburied with him by baptism into death: that blike1 as Christ was raised up from the dead by cthe glory of the Father, deven so we also should walk in newness of life. " Moreover, the blood with which one comes in contact through Scriptural baptism is the blood of His cross, for in Colossians 1:19, 20, it is written, " 19 For it pleased the Father that ain him should all fulness dwell; 20 and, ahaving made peace through the blood of his cross, bby him to reconcile call things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things 1in earth, or things in heaven. " The Bible clearly teaches that a son is a slave ( see Leviticus 25:35-46 ( especially verses 44 and 45, for example ); Acts 20:28; and 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 ( especially verses 22 and 23, for example ), for example ). A Christian is a member of the church of Christ ( see Acts 2:38, 41, and 47; chapter 11 ( especially verse 26, for example ); and Romans 12:1-8 ( especially verse 5, for example ), for example ), one who has been freed from his or her past sins, and is, thus, a slave of Christ, for example.
Therefore, the only way to worship God in spirit and in truth is to be a member of the church of Christ. This means that all those who practice false religion, whether they be Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc., are not worshipping God in spirit and in truth. All of these people are wasting their time by assembling for worship. God does not approve of their assemblies ( see Matthew, chapter 18 ( especially verse 20, for example ); John, chapter 6 ( especially verse 27, for example ); and Acts 4:30, 31; 20:27, for example ).
